“Displaced” follows gentrification in three predominantly Latinx Chicago neighborhoods in the summer of 2019. In Pilsen, a board member of an anti-gentrification organization reflects on the cruelty shown to low-income families and the disregard for culture shown by landlords and new tenants respectively. An Avondale artist muses on the ways culture can be co-opted so that services that seem to be for the people actually serve corporations and the ruling class. A Logan Square organizer delves into Chicago’s racist history of housing inequality, and shares some of the ways the people of Chicago have been resisting since these racist policies were put in place. Together, these stories paint a picture of gentrification in many stages, as well as the organizing necessary to resisting displacement.
